The part is played at the pitch of an alto, as the role is most commonly cast today, though the original performance apparently had a bass singing it. The recording was made using the edition by Bruce Wood for the Purcell Society, published by Stainer and Bell in 2021. This generally agrees with widely circulated scores from Novello ((Laurie and Dart) and Oxford (Dent), though the Novello includes several instances of editorial 'double dotting' which the S&B lacks. There is also in the S&B a repeat in the last section of the Sorceress's last song, which is not given in the Novello.
